This week is our resident pragmatist, James. He keeps us honest, real, and moving forward. Get to know him in his own words.
1. If you could join any past or current music group, which would you want to join?
The Lonely Island. They seem like a fun group of guys to be around and that irreverent comedy style is right up my alley. Any group that can so eloquently weave ‘flippy floppies’ into a verse gets my vote.
2. What did you want to be when you were younger?
My first ever AOL SN was Dream4PGA and I remember thinking I was so slick for coming up with that and even more surprised that it was still available! Loved to play golf when I was younger and had dreams of playing professional golf. Those dreams were pretty much dashed when it turned out I wasn’t very good at driving the ball, or with long irons, or with short irons, or putting, or chipping, or pitching, or anything else you needed to play on tour. When I didn’t make the high school team, chances got real slim so I just had to accept it.
I no longer use that AOL SN anymore.
3. If you could pick up a new skill in an instant, what would it be?
Ability to learn new languages. It’d be great if like the Matrix there was a way to just upload language packs into my brain so I could just learn them all that way. My wife and I love to travel so this would come in handy on trips.
4. What was the last book you read?
Blitzscaling by Reid Hoffman and Chris Yeh
A book on tactics on how to scale your company at a very rapid pace thus blitz. The idea is to put these into practice at YEN! Anything that helps in that endeavor is appreciated and I love reading accounts of successful people who have been there and done that.
5. Have you returned anything you’ve purchased recently? Why?
I had to really think about this one. My personality is such that I tend to do a lot of research on items before purchasing so that tends to cut down on the returns. Even if it’s not up to expectation, I may keep the item because I’ve put that effort into it already, I’ll make it work. Either that or if we don’t need something, I tend not to buy them either.
As I think through this, I do recall returning something at Costco but I actually can’t remember for the life of me what it was.
TUNE IN next week for another “Getting to Know” post!
