Feedback Wanted: Our Brand Essence

To start, a confession: I was wrong, I’m sorry, and I hope you can forgive me as I really, really believed that this was going to be our final landing page before we go public.

But, it was not to be, and here’s why…

… I got bored.

Rick is great.

No, that’s not entirely true (although I do get bored easily)! As we’ve shared, we’re going through a comprehensive and somewhat intense process of clarifying our collective brand and identifying some of the more essential elements of who we are!

In addition, brand audits, like these, help create a common language for our team and it can help set the stage for our on-going and ever-evolving communication strategy, which is just a really fancy way of saying:

Consequently, one of the things that we have the opportunity and luxury to do is lightly test some of these new mantras, catchphrases, and quips in a variety of different ways, one of which is on a public-facing landing page.

Is this our heart and soul?

One of pieces of brand collateral that was created and shared with us from the last round was on what they called our Brand Essence — there was something here that hit me straight in the gut and I knew that this was close but not quite perfect; it was missing something.

The challenge was that I wasn’t entirely sure what specifically was missing! Maybe it was the word pioneer that I really liked but seemed slightly out-of-place or perhaps it was the word-choice around “promotion” and “support” that didn’t feel completely congruent or perhaps it was the overall flow that didn’t sit comfortably enough for me.

@su, one of our cofounders, was the first to drum this up.

Whatever it was/is, I knew that we’d need to chat through it as a team (which we did via Slack) and I also knew that I wanted to present it to our community for a Public Review as well, especially since this is the way that we do things around here!

(If you’re new around here… Welcome! So glad that you’re here! We are building a community-of-communities, a platform where we actually listen to the needs of our users and do our very best to co-build and co-create with them! Feels good, right?)

So, without further ado, I’d love for you all to take a look at the copy near the top of our newly-refreshed homepage and give it some thought!

This will definitely not be the last update, pinky-promise.

Specifically, this verbiage:

Cultivating the conversations of the future.

Potential mantra, brand messaging, etc.

I imagine that we’ll continue to test-drive some of these new phrases and quips over the next few weeks and months as we get closer to our real public launch!

Ah, almost forgot to mention!

At the very bottom of this iteration of our landing page you’ll find a few new and exciting screenshots of the upcoming design evolution that’ll take place in the coming months (I teased this a bit here in a previous post).

Yes, a new lovely coat of paint! A handful of you also got to see this months ago at our last YEN Retreat—an obvious reason to join us at any of our physical meetups and gatherings!

We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by not only the new UI/UX but the many new and significant features that’ll give you the power to build, manage, and grow communities—we really can’t wait to see what communities you will create!
